Effectiveness of Solution-Focused Group Counseling for Adolescents with Internet Addiction

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop and explore the therapeutic effects of a group counseling program for adolescents struggling with Internet addiction.
Methods: This study involved 20 students from two middle schools in Seoul. Measurements included a self-control inventory, a self-esteem inventory, and a K-scale (a self-diagnosis test for teenage Internet addiction). The researchers also developed a counseling program based on Steve de Shazer¡¯s 5-step treatment model.
Results: The Solution-Focused Group Counseling Program developed by the researchers showed a significant effect on the treatment of adolescents with Internet addiction problems.
Conclusion: This study emphasized the effectiveness of solution-focused group counseling for adolescents with Internet addiction.
